5 Morning Rituals To Supercharge Your Day

A lot of us have a reactive approach to the way we experience the first few hours of the day. This usually includes being so sleepy we end up putting things that aren’t sugar into our morning coffee. Right before spilling said coffee all over ourselves as we scramble to make it out of the door on time.

This is why it’s important to remember, that our mornings can significantly impact our entire day, both positively and negatively.

We have found that If you create a positive routine for when you wake up, you’ll find yourself feeling more energised, more focused and in a much happier mood.

Here is a list of 5 morning rituals to help you feel supercharged and ready for the day.

1. Make Your Bed:

Simple, yet effective. Making your bed each morning can help to give you a sense of pride and accomplishment as soon as you wake up. This easy 2-minute task is something everyone has the time to achieve. If you find it difficult to commit to a 1-hour gym session each morning, starting off with this act of self-discipline can be a great stepping stone to building motivation.

Tip: If you want to apply any of these rituals to your morning routine, we suggest you start with this. It’s simple, achievable and will make you feel better for doing it.

2. Start Writing:

This is a nifty little ritual that a lot of big-name celebrities and creatives have been known to do. Including Tim Ferris, who we all know is an expert when it comes to designing an optimised life.

The concept is to write down a stream of consciousness across three pages of your journal. This writing could include tasks you’ve got to do throughout the day, any worries or concerns you might have or maybe it’s recording that weird dream you had last night. Either way, jotting down your minds thoughts first thing is a habit that can help to tame mental clutter, boost cognitive function while unlocking a little creativity in the process.

Tip: Instead of having your phone right next to your bed, switch it for pen and paper. This will help you to stay focused on the act of mindful writing rather than mindless scrolling.

3. Get Zen:

Meditation is a huge influence for a number of successful dream chasers, including the one and only Arianna Huffington. Not only is she a big advocate for the power of a good night's sleep, but also prides herself on having an outstanding morning routine as well. Huffington largely focuses on meditation to start her day. This technique helps to clear the mind, allowing the nervous system to balance and de-stress. It's also been known to help boost the immune system too!

Tip: If you’re unsure where to start, find a free meditation app and give yourself 10 minutes a day to practise mindfulness. You’ll be surprised by the results.

4. Eat Your Frog:

Mark Twain said it first "Eat a live frog first thing in the morning, and nothing worse will happen to you for the rest of the day.”

Although we doubt he meant it literally, we know what Twain was implying, which is to focus on the most difficult tasks first, when we have the most willpower and energy. If you make a habit out of doing the most uncomfortable task first, it can also help boost confidence and remove the desire for procrastination.

Tip: Create a list of the tasks you need to achieve. Move the most important task to the top of the list and make it your priority.

5. Wake Up Rested:

It’s so easy to sacrifice our precious hours of shut-eye for more important things like...Instagram. But sometimes allowing yourself those extra hours of sleep the night before will help you wake up feeling fresh and in a much better mood.
